These alert systems will send you an email daily for you to know when and how did someone mentioned you online.

Google, on the day of its 15th Hummingbird search algorithm, named precisely because of its fast and precise search capabilities. This new update from Google is believed to revolutionize the way online search engine optimization works, because unlike the Panda and Penguin updates, Hummingbird replaces the entire core algorithm completely, but still retaining some of its previously working features.

What’s more is that it affects 90% of the searches across the globe, giving it more influence on how search is conducted using this search engine. A lot of debates have been around of how this could affect search marketing, since this algorithm is operating with the semantic search concept, which primarily gives more attention to the intent of the person’s search rather than focusing on the terms/keywords the person used.

Basically, Google aims to address users with more complex searches with the new algorithm, especially now that voice search is becoming more and more available in smart phones and computers alike. People who use the voice search often make more complicated searches because they use natural language. This is far more difficult than just typing a query where you just enter keywords. That’s why Hummingbird ranks websites using its encyclopedia which houses more than 570 million concepts complete with relations among them, otherwise known as the Knowledge Graph.

This powerful database correlates facts and data on the searches, which in turn allows voice searchers to query additional information without having to repeat the query; instead, referencing terms such as pronouns could be related to the previous search. Also, the knowledge Graph displays information about specific searches (like prominent people and historical figures) directly in the Google Site, along with other related data such as age, height and date of birth in its search results. Another feature is the comparison tool, which allows the results page to display a table comparing various general terms like food, dogs and others. This could be good in e-commerce if Google decides to extend this tool to specific products like computers, phones or even establishments such as restaurants.

The use of the Knowledge Graph in the Hummingbird update just stresses the search engine company’s desire in  achieving better relevance as opposed to the Caffeine update which stressed on website indexing and crawling for faster results. This pretty much eliminates the “black hat” search engine marketing solution methods offered by dubious SEO companies, which have been Google’s master plan ever since.

Google has always been trying to find ways to improve the quality of their searches, using semantic search, natural language processing and their powerful Knowledge graph in its Hummingbird update. This feature alone makes the algorithm understand longer and more complex queries by applying concepts underlying the searched words as well as the relationship between them. This leads ultimately to a better communication—a natural conversation between the search engine and the person using it, no matter what device they’re using. While many SEO companies worry about what search engine marketing campaign strategies to use with this all-new algorithm coming out, Google assures that as long as “white hat” SEO strategies are used, there’s nothing to worry about.

Early this month, the release of Penguin 2.1, also known as Penguin 5 hits more practitioner of Black-hat SEO as well as those who malpractice the SEO. It's updates focuses on the manipulative and unnatural links. It's affects 2.3% of English-US queries.

What are the reason for penalty?

- Links from not relevant sites.

- Links from low quality sites.

- Paid links.

- Overly optimized links using anchor text like exact match anchor text.

What will be the next strategy for Penguin 2.1?

1. Know what to look for, focus more with great links, relevant and do not acquire more links.

2. Do some site link audit for your website, follow the disavow process.

3. Do not use exact match anchor text in your link building.

4. Get positive feedbacks from your customer, use their testimonials in your Business listing.

5. use your social media follower in twitter and G+.

6. Start optimizing your images, use alt tags and so on.

7. Use Schema.org optimization in your website.

I would say that you can start building your links and connect with the authority sites, poor links coming from other submission site may do harm you.

Press Releases

The capability to adapt to change swiftly and smoothly is one of the best ways to ensure business viability. The last five years has seen data and device use going wireless and mobile, with more businesses making the most of their manpower and the devices these personnel use.

Smaller, lighter devices are replacing larger machines and enabling people to do business whether they are in the office, at home or stuck in traffic.

The arena of EM where organizations utilize mobile devices offers great benefits, but it also has its risky areas. Dimension Data’s experience in deploying wireless infrastructure and enterprise mobility solutions across multiple industries and geographies provides benefits for organizations that seek this kind of expertise from the systems integration specialist.

Dimension Data provides enterprises with EM solutions. The company has valuable insights into the challenges, best practices and technologies in the EM space with its Enterprise Mobility Development Model (EMDM), which helps organizations prioritize their investments in wireless and mobility projects.

EMDM is a collaborative workshop tool that enables users to cycle through critical reflection points for addressing and progressing
through its EM capabilities and strategies. It maps the current stage of an organization's standing in terms of the various disciplines of enterprise mobility, their desired future state and a development path to achieve their goals.

Going mobile

Speaking at the Ayala Group of Companies' recently-concluded ICT Summit 2013, Dimension Data General Manager for Security Solutions and Enterprise Mobility Guido Crucq weighed in on the pros and cons of EM, BYOD and wireless connectivity.

With EM, organizations can respond faster to customer needs, reduce costs and increase productivity by saving time on paperwork and processes by empowering their personnel to complete these tasks while on the go.

Crucq said that while BYOD is gaining popularity, many enterprises are cautious in their approach to wireless connectivity and EM “because of security concerns, and the need to be flexible in using multiple platforms simultaneously, among other things.”

He cited a recent Ovum Global BYOD survey across 20 industries. The global average given by this IT think-tank is this: 57.1 percent of businesses allow and support BYOD in the workplace. The highest numbers, at close to 70 percent in this survey, come from the IT & Telecoms and Financial Services businesses, followed by Media/Publishing at over 65 percent.

Crucq also cited a study by Gallup Consulting that showed that “companies with engaged employees see 18 percent higher productivity and 51 percent lower turnover.” According to him, organizations “see a 20-percent to 25-percent boost in productivity with the use of social media.”

New needs
Cost-efficient, productivity-enhancing and choice-empowering system are all good, but Crucq cautioned that organizations seeking to leverage EM must also focus on securing their networks and supporting several operating system platforms and versions across several device types.

In this increasingly net-connected world, any organization adopting EM must be vigilant about external threats: Distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks and mass attempts at identity theft that target not just the organization’s IT systems, but their end-users and customers, too.

Crucq also shared EM best practices: First, “establish a strategic roadmap” to enable the organization to “better understand the EM environment and develop their strategy. Next, he recommended using the roadmap to “align all stakeholders in an organization on their 'as-is' and required 'to-be' range of EM competencies.” He said organizations embarking on the EM path should “produce a prioritized list of projects and visual roadmap to close the gap” between where an organization stands and where it wants to be.

Operating systems and malware: Android (over 600 versions and 79 percent of total malware attacks); Windows 8 (five versions and 0.3 percent of malware attacks); BlackBerry (four versions and 0.1 percent of malware attacks) and; MacOS (three versions and 0.7 percent of malware attacks).

To keep an EM network secure, the CIO and tech support team of an organization must ensure that secure device management covers device configuration, device inventory, posture assessment, user access, secure connectivity, the ability to do a remote wipe on a misplaced or stolen device when needed, data protection and encryption and the white-listing and black-listing of specific applications.

Facebook is now allowing up to 50 users to contribute in one album. This is another great feature that Facebook has recently offered. Every user can add up to 200 photos that can contain as many as 10,000 images in one album. Before users only have 1000 photos that they can add to their own album.

Bob Baldwin, Facebook Software Engineer says,  “Right now, if you were at a party and there were three different albums created, you might not be able to see all the photos [based on privacy settings], which is kind of confusing and frustrating.”

This new feature can also be use in boosting  engagement in Facebook Groups while preserving memories of group events.

Although this new feature of Facebook is very alike to Google+'s party mode. The privacy settings are of course one of the concerned. That is why you can opt to make these shared albums visible to the public, contributors only, or even with friends of contributors.

It's already started with few numbers of users, and it will be expanded to all English users before they roll it out internationally.

Since the creation of Smart phones, access to the Internet became possible. Responsive web design was also introduced just recently. Responsive design is a web design approach aimed at creating and modifying smart phones as well as for tablets to provide optimal viewing experience, more like trying the best to replicate the same website as seen on the desktop format by applying layouts. These layouts were customized to adopt a wide range of smart phones and tablets and to provide quality applications and viewing experience.

The goals of App Store Optimization (ASO) are:

1. To be found on the first pages.

2. To rank higher against competitors.

3. To rank higher via keywords.

4. To rank higher in Google semantic search for Applications.

Like in the old days of SEO, multiple platforms are needed to optimize, although ASO this time has separate app versions for each of them. The largest one would be Apple App store, Android Market, Blackberry App world, Samsung App store and other alternatives. Although young, it is the new future for SEO so here are some basic ranking methods.

App Store Ranking Factors

• App Name – the name of apps here are categorized alphabetically so that means that the closer the name of the app to A means it gets more noticed.

• Publisher’s App name – keyword rich app names are much more helpful like TORO games, TORO map, TORO Food Search much better.

• Keywords – everybody knows that the most

• keyword rich content gets the most notice.

Most Popular ranking factors as observed are closely similar to Website ranking factors.

Adapting to ASO won’t be that hard. The good side about this is that by learning and applying this new trend, it can help your e-business boom and bloom.

Every time I meet my friend, she always asked me things about doing business online. We talk about things we thought that might be working and not. So I decide to conduct a small research on the Internet and have read successes and failure story.

And so I came up with the ten common mistakes when starting an online business. I would like to share this to my friend as well as to you. The question is what are the mistakes made in starting businesses? For sure newbies love to know about this so that they can avoid such things.

Below are the Top 10 mistakes made when starting an online business:

1. Waited too long for Product/Service Launching.

People used to wait to have more subscribers before they offer something. Others can't find time to blog or podcast their products/services. If you're trying to build a business, you need to take the risk head-on. It's creating something that no one will pay for.

Practice creating and launching products. At first, it may not thatwell, but sooner you will see the sustainable revenue.

2. Solve the unimportant problem.

Trying to solve a problem that nobody cares about it is one reason why business fails. Look for more important problem and not a bigger audience.

3. Not listening to customers.

"They say customers is always right," yes because they know what they like to buy or not.

Listen to them always. Listen to those who say that they won't buy and find ways to know why. Customers always have answers for your business.

4. Not being distinctive.

I think all Business has competition, all you have to do is to be different from them. Give your customers the reason why they have to choose your offerings over the others.

Think like a customer, try to be much better!

5. Choosing the right products/services.

Some people, forget to choose the right products/services. Make sure that you have a passion for this. This is something that you like and care about.

It's not right to us what the world needs. Ask yourself what you can offer and do that to live.

6. Wrong expectations from the start.

Building a business is a big endeavor, and it's not easy and very quick.

You can't do it with a full-time job. It will be much harder. Doing a business with other things will probably fail because there is no overnight success, and these are the hard truths.

Ask this to yourself before building your own business;

 - Will be building this business still be worth it if it takes years to get there?

 - What if building the business is harder and more stressful than your current job?

7. Spend time planning but not doing it.
If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be the worker-bee mode and the CEO mode.

I remember what Thomas Edison says that "Genius is one-percentinspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration."

8. You can't do it alone.

No one will succeed in business alone. You need people like workers, suppliers, etc. as well as customers.

Support from other entrepreneurs and other people with more knowledge and experience is needed.

While the support from the family and friends will help you face the struggles and other business problems.

9. Confuse in “blog” and “business”.

Remember a blog is not a business.

A blog is only your platform to share your ideas, to connect with people and grow your audience. It's just a tool that you can use in building influence.

A business is something that you earn a profit while offering something by products or services.

10. List down your goals/plans.

Sometimes we forgot to do the most simple things. We should always create a list of our goals so that we won't miss a thing in our plans, and then we should evaluate the over-all performance.

If things went wrong, we should figure out what how to make it right. Anyway, everyday is a learning process, especially if you are a noob.
