Upon Twitter’s plunge in the internet, people started questioning the efficiency of posting significant information especially for business with only 140 characters to use. However, eventually, Twitter underwent huge improvements and added some features that benefit businesses, which led to becoming one of the most impressive and excellent social media platforms for businesses.

Suddenly, businesses had an epiphany on Twitter’s 140 characters and swamped the site in big numbers. Consequently, this soaring growth in Tweetosphere paved the way for a great need of implementing a set of conventional rules, principles, and guidelines on the scope and limitations of what businesses could carry out in Twitter.

In an interesting manner, many social media specialists usually talk about the things that can be done on Twitter, but they forgot to focus also on the relevant things that shouldn’t be done on Twitter. Gladly, I am going share the things that you must avoid doing on Twitter.

• Too Much Tweeting or Re-Tweeting – I discovered that some businesses are
guilty of over-tweeting/re-tweeting. They tweet excessively and what’s worse is that their tweets are repetitious. This is really bothersome to find that the same tweets are appearing in my feed every night before I sleep and they come out again the next morning. The intention is to be wise on the frequency of tweets and the content of tweets.

• Follow Everybody with an Account – Sometimes, businesses forget the very
important fact that Twitter is an efficient tool for their business IF they know
who their target audiences are. You follow people with hopes to follow you back and gain additional followers- it doesn’t work that way, and it won’t help your business. Instead, purposefully follow the ones who would associate with your business. Moreover, keep in mind that automatic follows (auto follow) can only give you additional number of followers but it cannot guarantee the quality which is why you should make certain that you consider your choices prior to turning the follow button on.

• Blackguarding – Employing foul, obscene, or offensive tweets can only get your business in the worst scenario. You must keep your self-regard on
Twitter. Always be attentive of the language you use and respect everyone.
Keep in mind that you are dealing with human beings who can feel so it is very essential to avoid hurting their sentiments. The golden rule here – “tweet others the way you would like to be tweeted”.

• Incomplete or Imprecise Profile – Most users do not follow Twitter accounts
whose profiles have not been completed or who give dis-informing information on their profiles. Majority of users only get associated with real businesses which are guileless when it comes to their practice. Be sure to put in your profile all the necessary information and never provide any incorrect details.

• Jactitation – Whereas Twitter is a tool for the promotion of businesses as
well as its related products, it is not advisable to tweet blatant sales talk to be recognized and patronized. Do not praise and boast yourself or your business excessively. Practice a balanced approach at all times.

• Personal Conversations – Refrain from having any kind of personal
conversations on Twitter if you are a business person. There is no point in living them futile information overload as they are not most likely to get interested about it anyway.

• Tweeting Rarely – As it is important to avoid excessive tweeting, it is also
equally relevant to avoid posting once in a blue moon. Make sure that you tweet frequent enough as long as you make sure that you have quality information to share. This will help secure your followers’ interest in being associated with you.

Avoiding these practices in Twitter would not only create a more harmonious
environment within the micro-blogging sphere, but would also help your business attain a more professional recognition among your followers.

With the advent and boom of social media, business enterprises also saw it as an opportunity to establish brand awareness and connect with their customers on a personal level. Today, businesses are utilizing social media to engage with their clients like never before. But with thousands to millions of messages sent every single day, how business could manage all their social media accounts effectively?

That’s why HootSuite can come very handy. Instead of opening each social media account, sharing passwords, and spending countless of hours tracking individual social media effort and activity, HootSuite allows you to effectively and conveniently manage, collaborate, and execute social media campaigns across different platforms from a SINGLE and SECURED web-based dashboard.

To help you get familiar with this awesome social media management tool, here’s a quick rundown.

Setting Up Your Dashboard

  • Adding Social Networks – As mentioned earlier, the big question here is how do you seamlessly manage all your social media profiles effectively? Well, the answer is provided by HootSuite as it can help you import your social media profiles and access all of them from a neat-looking and centralized dashboard. If you want to add a social media account, simply go to the “Streams” section, then click “Add Social Network”, select what type of account you’d like to add, and then simply put your username-password combination and you’re all set.

In addition, you don’t have to connect that profile again in the future. What’s more interesting is that you can actually add multiple social media profiles (same social media network) to your dashboard! This can be very beneficial if you are concentrating on a single social media platform like for instance, Twitter campaign only.

  • Adding Tabs – In HootSuite, the easiest way to organize all your accounts is by using tabs. As much as possible, think of your dashboard as a filing cabinet where each tab is your file folder. The good thing about tabs is that you can also use them to group and organize social media content you want to manage or monitor. This implies that tabs are not restricted for managing social media accounts only.

There are many ways to organize your tabs. By default, your social media networks are organized as tabs but you can fully customize them whenever you desire. For instance if you are a social media agency, you can designate tabs as your clients so you would know exactly what is going on with their social media accounts. Given this feature, you can also assign tabs to monitor what your competitors are up to.

To create/add a new tab, simply click the “+” button at the end of your tabs list and type in your desired name for that tab. In order to remain organized, you can edit or rename the tab by simply double clicking it. In addition, you can drag and move them if you want to group them with others. Needless to say, tabs give you the power to manage and organize all your accounts and content in a very convenient way.

  • Adding Streams – Apart from monitoring accounts and activities, how do you streamline the information flow of your networks? Use streams to organize and monitor the incoming content! Actually, streams will maximize your ability to monitor in HootSuite.

Simple click the “Add a Stream” button in your dashboard, choose your desired social media platform, and select your profile. In a single tab or profile, you can add up to 10 streams such as (for Twitter) Home Feeds, Sent Tweets, Mentions, etc. What’s good in HootSuite is that you can have multiple social media profile stream under a single tab! On top of that, you can customize these streams in a way that is optimal for you.

  • Navigating Your User Profile – If you want to change any information in your profile, or you have changed your social media network password and need to re-authenticate with HootSuite again, or you want to add a team member, just work around your “Member Overview” page as this is your central hub. In this page, you can view/edit your profile, the organization you belong to, as well as all the social networks you own.

  • Exploring HootSuite Organization – If your business organization is expanding or you are already a member of a large company, you are most likely to collaborate with other people internally to accomplish social media goals. In HootSuite Organization, you can add people, assign them into teams, and even customize their access levels. In addition, you can easily see and manage all your created teams/departments, their team members, as well as social profiles.

HootSuite is a preferred and certified partner of prominent social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn. Because of its amazing, convenient, and customizable features, HootSuite is the most used social relationship platform today. Since 2008, HootSuite recorded an increasing user database of more than 9 million in over 175 countries worldwide. Needless to say, HootSuite is best social media management tool in the market to date, and if you want to make the most of this tool, working around your way in dashboard is definitely a good head start.
